Balixiang cantaloupe planting and management

Balixiang cantaloupe, bred by experts from Beijing Baliqiao Farm , is a very popular melon variety on the market. The fruit of Balixiang melon is round, with rich melon fragrance, sweet and delicate flesh, sweet and refreshing taste, thin skin and juicy taste. Many farmers grow it. Below, I will introduce the planting and management of Balixiang cantaloupe. Let’s take a look.

1. Planting

3-5 days before sowing, the greenhouse, electric hotbed or brewing hotbed should be inspected for spring sowing, and a shade and rainproof shed should be set up for autumn sowing. Sow 1-2 seeds in each nutrient pot, nutrient block or nutrient soil, lay the seeds flat, cover them with soil 1 cm thick, sprinkle a layer of fine ash, and cover with a layer of plastic film to facilitate germination.

2. Seedling management

In spring, seedlings should be covered with multiple layers to keep warm, while in autumn, they should be shielded from rain and cooled. After sowing, the daytime temperature should be maintained at 30°C and not lower than 18% at night. The seeds will emerge 2-3 days after sowing. Remove the covering film after emergence. The temperature of the seedbed is controlled at 25-28% during the day and 13-15℃ at night. Generally no watering is required during the seedling stage, and a small amount can be sprayed when there is a water shortage. Water the seedlings thoroughly before transplanting to facilitate transplanting. In autumn seedling cultivation, attention should be paid to night temperature management. 5-7 days before transplanting, ventilate and harden the seedlings appropriately according to weather conditions.

3. Planting

Under protected conditions, it usually occurs from mid-to-late February to early April. For open-field mulching production, the crops are planted after the late frost in late April to early May, and for autumn cultivation, the crops are planted in late July to mid-August. 10-15 days before transplanting, apply 4000-5000 kg of fully decomposed farmyard manure, 30-40 kg of diammonium phosphate and 15 kg of potassium sulfate per mu. Mix them evenly and apply them in the furrows before making ridges or furrows. The ridge (furrow) is 80-100 cm wide and 15 cm high. It is cultivated in single rows with a plant spacing of 40 cm. About 2,000 plants are planted per mu.

4. Field management

Balixiang cantaloupe likes light and has high requirements for sunlight. At least 3-4 hours of sunlight a day is beneficial to promote its growth and development. Balixiang cantaloupe prefers a warm and humid climate, and is suitable for growing in an environment with a temperature of 25-30 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity of 60%-80%. The suitable soil for Balixiang cantaloupe is fertile, loose, breathable loam rich in humus. The soil needs to be kept moist and avoid the influence of high and low temperatures.

5. Fertilization management

The soil of the Balixiang melon needs to be kept moist during its growth period and avoid overwatering. In terms of fertilization, you can choose organic fertilizer or compound fertilizer and apply it 2-3 times a year.

6. Pest and disease control

During its growth period, Balixiang cantaloupe is easily affected by diseases and pests, and timely measures need to be taken to prevent and control them. In terms of disease and pest control, we can adopt a prevention-oriented approach, combining prevention and control, regularly inspect the plants, and take timely measures when diseases and pests are discovered.

The above is the planting and management of Balixiang cantaloupe. Balixiang cantaloupe is mainly distributed in North China, East China, Central South, Southwest China, Northwest China and other regions. It is crisp and juicy, with sweet flesh, and has promising planting prospects.
