How to grow baby's breath in winter

Gypsophila paniculata is popular for its charming appearance and is very suitable for viewing and decoration. After the flowering period, baby's breath can be made into dried flowers and continue to be used as decorations, maintaining its beauty and decorative effect for a long time. So how do you grow baby’s breath in winter?

1. Adequate lighting

The sunlight is weak in winter, and baby's breath needs more light to promote growth. Make sure that the baby's breath can get enough sunlight, especially after the seeds germinate, full-sun conditions are most conducive to its rapid growth.

2. Reasonable fertilization

When fertilizing baby's breath, avoid using granular fertilizers and instead choose a "monopotassium phosphate" nutrient solution. Dilute the nutrient solution and water to half of the original ratio. Since frequent fertilization is required, the ratio should be reduced and the amount of water should be increased. Applying thin fertilizer frequently will help the growth of baby's breath.

3. Water moderately

Because the temperature is low in winter and the air evaporation is not strong, baby's breath does not require a lot of watering. Too much water may cause the plant to grow too tall and change shape. Keep the soil slightly moist.

4. Notes

(1) Temperature management

The suitable temperature for the growth of baby's breath is 25 degrees Celsius. The temperature should be strictly controlled in winter, as too low a temperature may cause the baby's breath to die. If the indoor temperature is not high enough, cover the plant with a plastic bag. The outdoor environment in winter is not suitable for plant growth, so the plants should be moved indoors. As the temperature gradually warms up, the plastic bag can be removed.

(2) Water and fertilizer

The plant's growth is weak in winter and does not require a lot of water. In cold weather, special attention should be paid to reducing the frequency of watering and watering moderately every few days. The plants' demand for nutrients is also lower in winter, so the amount of fertilizer should be reduced. While maintaining a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, apply a thin layer of fertilizer every two weeks to ensure that the plant can absorb nutrients. If the growth temperature is too low, fertilization should be stopped to avoid root burns and affect growth.

The above are some key points and precautions for caring for baby's breath in winter. There are actually many colors of baby's breath. You can learn more about it when caring for it and choose the color that suits your preference.
