How to grow and prune roses

How to grow and prune roses

1. Maintenance methods

1. Watering: Roses are afraid of waterlogging. When growing them, you should not water them unless the soil is dry. If you water them, you must water them thoroughly. It is usually done when the soil in the pot turns white. In midsummer, watering is generally required every day, and in winter, less watering is generally required. Also, when watering, be careful not to splash water onto the leaves, otherwise it will cause disease.

2. Wintering: During the winter, it is best if the temperature can be kept above 18℃. While ensuring the temperature, you should also get more sunlight, and you can stay in the sun all day. If the temperature is not reached, you can wait until the leaves fall, keep 5cm of branches, cut off the rest, and then put them in a cool place.

3. Fertilization: It is a plant that likes fertilizer. It should be fertilized once every ten days during maintenance. You can use dilute light fertilizer water. Be sure not to apply too much fertilizer, otherwise it will harm the seedlings. Moreover, fertilizer is generally not applied in winter, and fertilizer is mainly applied during its peak growth period. Fertilization generally uses bean cake fertilizer, chicken manure or oil residue.

2. Pruning method

Pruning is usually done after flowering, when the withered flowers should be removed, as well as the excess flower buds, to reduce nutrient consumption. Longer branches should also be pruned back appropriately. During normal pruning, you should do light pruning and remove the branches that grow crosswise or overlapping. Only by retaining strong branches can the plant look more beautiful.
