Java cotton cultivation method

Java cotton cultivation method

1. Basic Introduction

The Java cotton tree, originally named "Jibei", is a strong sun-loving tree species that is not shade-tolerant. It is native to tropical America and is grown in Yunnan, Guangxi and Hainan in my country. Its flowering period is from March to April. The tree has a beautiful shape and can be used as an ornamental tree species, such as a street tree or a landscape tree. At the same time, the Java cotton tree also has medicinal and dietary value.

2. Breeding methods

1. Temperature: Java cotton is native to tropical America, so it prefers high temperature climate. It has strong heat resistance and is best suited to growing in areas with an annual average temperature above 22°C and no frost damage. It is not suitable for growing in the north.

2. Soil: It is best to choose sandy loam, medium fertility, sunny and sheltered from the wind as the planting site. However, the Java cotton tree does not have very high requirements for soil and is resistant to barrenness and drought. Most soils can be used for planting, but the soil must have good drainage properties.

3. Watering: Sufficient watering is required. It is best to choose a planting site with a rainfall of about 800mm, especially during the growing season. During the seedling stage, water 1 to 2 times a day to keep the soil moist.

4. Light: Java cotton is a strong sun-loving tree species and loves sunlight very much. It is very heat tolerant and prefers an environment with plenty of sunlight. When growing it, plant it in a place with good lighting conditions.

3. Maintenance Tips

1. Weeding: Weeding is a long-term job. Especially in summer, weeds must be removed in time or sprayed with herbicides.

2. Pests: Java cotton seedlings are prone to aphid damage. If aphids are found, they can be sprayed with omethoate for three times, with an interval of 6 to 7 days between each application. The tree trunks will be damaged by the brow-spotted longhorn beetle, which will slow down their growth, make them bend, and easily break them by the wind. When longhorn beetles are found to be causing trouble, you can use dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane to kill them, or mix dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane with mud to plug the hole and suffocate the longhorn beetles.
