How to deal with lily bulbils

How to deal with lily bulbils

1. Collection

After the flower buds fade, small bulbs, called bulbils, will grow from the roots of the leaves of the plant. When they mature, they will fall off by themselves. The sign of maturity is that the bulbils turn purple-black, at which time they can be collected.

2. Save

1. Soil preservation: Put the bulbils in a plastic bag, remove the air inside, and then place them in a sturdy plastic box.

2. Storage in cellar: You can collect the bulbils and place them in a cellar if you have one at home.

3. Storage in the refrigerator: Wash the collected bulbils, drain the water, and then place them in a cool place to dry. Then put it in a fresh-keeping bag, remove the air inside, and place it in the freezer of the refrigerator, keeping the temperature at around 2-5℃.

4. Storage in foam box: If it is only for short-term storage, it is better to put the bulbils in it.

3. Planting

1. Time: It can be used for reproduction, and the planting time is from late September to early October. This period is more suitable and the climate is also mild.

2. Soil: The choice of soil is also very important. It needs to be loose, soft, and well-drained. For potted planting, you can mix leaf mold, river sand, and garden soil and add a small amount of bone meal.

3. Planting: After the soil is prepared, spray water appropriately to keep it moist, then sow the bulbils and cover them with about 3 cm of soil.
