How to plant bougainvillea

How to plant bougainvillea

1. Planting method

Bougainvillea is mainly propagated by cuttings. In the north, cuttings are mainly carried out in May and June, with a suitable temperature of 20-30℃. Select one-year-old woody branches, cut about 20 cm, remove the leaves near the lower end, and leave 2-3 leaves. After the processed branches are inserted into the sand pot 4-6cm, cover them with glass to keep them warm. Water them thoroughly for the first time. Place the grafted plants in a ventilated, cool place with sparse light for 15 days. After they have taken root in about a month, they can be exposed to full light. It will bloom after two years of cultivation.

2. Maintenance measures

1. Light: Do not expose to strong light before rooting. After one month, it can be exposed to light all day.

2. Moisturizing: If the weather is dry, cover it with a glass cover or plastic wrap to retain moisture, and make sure to leave ventilation holes. In the evening, you can open it for ventilation, spray it with water and then cover it again.

3. Fertilization: When grafting, you can apply fertilizer outside the roots. Choose a 1/1000 potassium dihydrogen phosphate aqueous solution and spray it once every 10 days.

4. Potting: Harden the surviving seedlings under strong light and water them with thin fertilizer. After about 50-60 days of cuttings, transplant them into pots, separate the roots from the substrate and plant them in the culture soil.

3. Notes

When bougainvillea is propagated by cuttings, it will first sprout and grow branches before taking roots, so do not transplant or loosen the soil when sprouting, otherwise it will affect the rooting.
