When to plant sweet potato seedlings

When to plant sweet potato seedlings

1. Seedling raising time

The seedling period of sweet potatoes is generally from April to May. The temperature is not very high at this time, which is conducive to the growth of seedlings. At the same time, the light is relatively sufficient and the temperature is between 15-20℃. If the climate is different, the seedling raising time can also be delayed.

2. How to raise seedlings

1. Seed potato selection: Sweet potatoes are rarely propagated by seeds. Instead, seed potatoes, which are its tuberous roots, are chosen. Select some seed potatoes that are free of pests and diseases and have no surface damage, weighing between 100-250 grams.

2. Planting: Sweet potatoes are generally planted on a large scale, with the distance between each seed potato being about 3 cm. After arranging them, cover them with a layer of soil of 2-3 cm. The soil should not be too thick so as not to affect germination.

3. Insulation measures: Insulation measures vary according to the variety of sweet potatoes. Early-maturing varieties use three layers of insulation: large greenhouses, small arch sheds and ground film, while conventional varieties use two layers of insulation: small arch sheds and ground film. After the seedlings emerge, the plastic film should be removed to avoid affecting the growth of the seedlings.

4. Maintain ventilation: When the temperature is above 20℃, strengthen the ventilation of the greenhouse to prevent the temperature from being too high and burning the seedlings. At the same time, water the plant in time after the soil dries to ensure a moist environment.
