How to graft osmanthus fragrans onto elm

How to graft osmanthus fragrans onto elm

1. Can it be grafted?

Elm trees and osmanthus trees cannot be grafted together. Elm trees belong to the genus Ulmus in the family Ulmaceae, while osmanthus trees belong to the family Oleaceae. They belong to different families and are distantly related, making it difficult to graft the two together, and even if they are grafted, it is difficult for the trees to survive. If you have a good elm stump at home, you can graft trees of related families, such as elm, peach, apple, and apricot. These trees are easier to survive and have relatively high healing abilities. If you want to graft an osmanthus tree, it is best to choose seedlings sown from seeds, which will have the best effect. You can also choose Ligustrum lucidum, Tassels, Ligustrum lucidum, Fraxinus chinensis, Fraxinus chinensis, and Fraxinus suffruticosa. Each of these has its own advantages and disadvantages.

2. Different grafting methods

1. Ligustrum lucidum: The disadvantage of using Ligustrum lucidum as rootstock is that the interface is easily loose and easy to break. The corresponding grafting method is to lower the interface and make it longer.

2. Tassel tree: It often has the problem of being thin on top and thick on the bottom. It is necessary to strengthen the management of fertilizer and water, which can speed up the growth rate. The dense branches and crossed branches should also be cut off.

3. Water wax: When using water wax for grafting, the bottom will be thin. Reasonable fertilization is required, and be careful not to change the pot too frequently.
