How to grow ivy in summer

How to grow ivy in summer

1. Maintain the environment

In summer, you can grow it under a shade shed or in a cool room. Although ivy does not have too many requirements for the surrounding environment, the high temperature in summer is still not conducive to the growth of the vines. It must not be placed in the sun for a long time. It is best to move the ivy to a cool room during the summer. The more suitable environmental conditions for ivy are to maintain the temperature at 20℃ during the day, 18℃ at night, and the surrounding air humidity at no less than 80%. Such a maintenance environment can help ivy survive the summer.

2. Water requirements

Pay special attention to maintaining the moisture level of the vine leaves. In summer, due to the large amount of evaporation from the vine leaves, it is necessary to spray the leaves intermittently to maintain the humidity. You can choose to use a fine mist nozzle, or you can wipe the leaves with a slightly damp clean cotton cloth to keep the leaves moist for a period of time, and then spray again after the water film on the surface is dry.

3. Watering method

In terms of water management, watering should be done in both dry and wet conditions. Avoid excessive moisture in the potting soil. If there is stagnant water, it must be poured out in time, otherwise it will cause the vine roots to rot and the vine leaves to fall off. In summer, you can avoid the high temperature at noon. It is more suitable to water the ivy in the early morning or after the sun goes down. You can alternate between watering and fertilizing.

4. Soil composition

Understand the soil properties and avoid using alkaline soil for cultivation. You can choose to add an appropriate amount of coconut shells to the cultivation base, or you can mix it with garden soil or wood ash, and keep the pH value of the soil between 5.7-5.9. In addition, try to keep the soil loose. If you add some soil with more potassium, it will be beneficial to the growth of ivy in summer. Avoid using soil with high salinity.
