Orchid seed propagation technology, what kind of soil is best for cultivation

1. Planting method

1. Prepare potting soil: The first step before planting is to prepare a breathable flower pot and loose and clean soil. The soil can be a mixture of peat soil, coarse sand, cinders, and sandy loam. It is best to disinfect it before use.

2. Process the seeds: Before sowing, sterilize the uncracked fruits with alcohol, then take out the seeds and soak them in sodium chlorate for 5-10 minutes. After soaking, take it out and rinse it in clean water. This can reduce the growth of weeds and facilitate seed germination.

3. Start planting: Put the processed seeds into the soil, cover them with a 3 cm layer of soil, then water them once, and then place them indoors at a temperature of 25°C and wait for them to take root and sprout.

2. Breeding Methods

In addition to propagation by sowing, you can also use division. As long as the growth condition is good and the pseudobulbs are relatively dense, the plant can be divided. Usually five pseudobulbs connected together form a cluster. Prepare clean sandy loam and plant each cluster in a pot. After potting it, water it thoroughly and place it in a semi-shaded environment. It will take root in about half a month.

3. Soil Selection

When growing orchids, it is best to use professional soil, which can be purchased directly at a nearby flower market. If it is home cultivation, it is also a good idea to prepare the soil yourself, but it should meet the requirements of air permeability, acidity, and strong drainage. Such soil will help the orchid grow more robustly in the later stage.
