Differences between Populus euphratica and Pinus sylvestris

1. Differences in the trunk

The trunk of Populus euphratica is 10 to 15 meters high and can reach 1.5 meters in diameter. The trunk is relatively upright, the wood is relatively slender and soft, the surface color of the bark is light gray-brown, the twigs are relatively thin, relatively smooth and slightly covered with small hairs.

The trunk of Larix gmelinii is relatively tall, with a height of about 15 to 25 meters, and can reach up to 30 meters. The bark on the upper side is lighter in color, such as yellow or yellowish brown, while the bark on the lower side is darker in color, such as grayish brown or blackish brown. The crown is elliptical or conical in shape.

2. Differences in leaves

The leaves of Populus euphratica have various shapes, including oval, oval-lanceolate, triangular-ovate, and are about 25 cm long and 3 cm wide. The petiole is about 1 to 3 cm long and is relatively smooth.

The leaves of Larix gmelinii are about 4 to 9 cm long, and rarely can reach 12 cm, with relatively fine serrations on the edges.
