How to take care of flowers at home?It was still cold on Valentine's Day this year. The flowers looked pretty fresh that day. They were all arranged by the flower shop. If you have time in the evening, you can quickly deal with them. Don't let them be deprived of moisture and nutrition~ 1. Picking leaves The bouquet is quite crowded, so open it quickly and pick off the bad petals first. These petals with black rot and half-fallen off are not only unable to recover, affecting the appearance, but also consume excess nutrients. Don't be reluctant to pick them off. In addition to the petals, the leaves also need to be picked off. Generally, it is enough to keep 1-2 leaves on a flower. If there are too many, it will cause crowding in the vase. Also, avoid soaking the leaves in water, make sure they are above the water bottle. 2. Pruning Find a clean and sharp pair of scissors and cut off 1-3 cm at an angle at the bottom of the flower branch. If the vase you are preparing is shorter, cut more. During the subsequent growth process, cut off 1-2 cm each time you change the water, so that the flowers will bloom longer. 3. Vase and water There are no special requirements for the vase, but it must be kept clean. If it has been kept for too long, wash it before using it. Although the glass bottle is light-transmitting, the water level and quality can be observed in time. Although the ceramic bottle is not light-transmitting, it is not easy to observe. The water used for growing flowers should be neutral to acidic. Flower lovers in the north can use purified water (drinking water is fine) if conditions permit and change the water every 3-5 days. The water level should not be too high, should not exceed 1/2 of the vase, and the flower stems should not poke the bottom of the vase. 4. Add some beer, Sprite, or aspirin Just using plain water is not enough. These flowers are grown with various fertilizers in the greenhouse. If the water stops flowing, it will be disastrous. Add a spoonful of beer (about 3-5 ml) to the water. There are some fermented substances in it that can keep the flowers active. If you have Sprite at home, you can also add a spoonful of Sprite. Sprite is a carbonated beverage that contains carbonic acid and sugar. It can not only increase activity levels, but also provide some nutrition. Aspirin contains salicylic acid, which can be an antioxidant and inhibit the rapid decay of flowers, thus prolonging the flowering period to a certain extent. However, aspirin tablets are difficult to dissolve in clean water, so it is best to crush them before sprinkling them into the vase. 5. Lemonade and sugar If you have lemons at home, you can squeeze a few drops of lemon water into your water. Lemon water also has antioxidant effects and contains VC, which is a good vitamin nutrition. If none of the above mentioned things work, then sprinkle a pinch of white sugar. Cut off 1-2 cm of the flower stem at the bottom every time you change the water to keep the bottom absorption smooth. 6. Picking lily stamens The stamens of lilies are very large and have orange pollen. Not only do they have a strong smell, but they are also difficult to clean if they get on clothes. It is recommended to directly pick off the stamens with pollen so as not to affect the flowering period. 7. Temperature The temperature for hydroponics of fresh flowers should not be too high, 5-15 degrees is suitable. The weather is still very cold now, so there is no need to place them near the heater. Low temperature can also keep the flowers fresh. Just place them in a brighter place in the house. Making dried flowers and preserved flowersNo matter how carefully you care for flowers, they will wither one day. If you want to preserve them longer, you can make them into dried flowers or everlasting flowers. Dried flowers can be preserved for up to 1 year after being air-dried, while everlasting flowers need to be dehydrated and dried quickly and can be preserved for 3-5 years. 1. Making dried flowers Fresh flowers do not need to be trimmed too much. After removing the bad leaves, use clothespins to clip them upside down and hang them in a higher place in the home. If it is raining or snowing outside, hang it in a brighter place indoors (even if there is light). Just hang it like this and keep it dry for 2-3 weeks, and it will become a brightly colored dried flower. It will look very artistic when placed on a dressing table or cupboard. 2. Make everlasting flowers The everlasting flowers that are so popular in the market now can actually be made by ourselves. All we need is a bottle or a fresh-keeping box and a desiccant. This is the activated carbon in the drying box we usually use at home to absorb moisture and prevent mildew. The activated carbon particles cannot be too large. First put a layer of desiccant at the bottom of the container, then put the flowers on it and slowly fill it up with desiccant. Make sure to fill it up until the flowers are no longer visible around it. Seal it with a lid and place it in a relatively dry place in the room. This method can be used to create an immortality effect on both flowers and leaves. It is actually just a quick dehydration. Smaller flower leaves can be completed in 3 days, but rose petals are more numerous and will take about a week. The finished everlasting flowers have the same texture as paper and should not be placed in a very humid place. Cover them with a glass cover. This is not only beautiful but also safe. They can be kept for three to five years without any problem. If you don’t like this color, you can use watercolor to dye it into other colors. |
