How to grow the flower of smooth sailing?

Spathiphyllum , also known as Peace Lily, is a common indoor ornamental plant with emerald green leaves, beautiful shape, air purifying ability and white flowers . So how do you grow the smooth sailing flower?

1. Soil selection

Good luck with loose, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. You can use leaf mold, peat soil and river sand or perlite mixed in equal proportions. This kind of soil can ensure the air permeability of the roots while preventing water accumulation and root rot.

2. Lighting management

The plant likes scattered light and is afraid of direct sunlight. It is suitable to be placed in a bright but direct sunlight location indoors, such as an east or north facing windowsill. It only needs 3-4 hours of scattered light every day, and avoid strong light at noon in summer, otherwise the leaves will easily turn yellow or burn.

3. Temperature control

All's Well Likes Warmth, and the suitable growth temperature is 15℃-28℃. The temperature in winter should not be lower than 10℃, otherwise it is easy to suffer from frostbite. In the north, the plants need to be moved indoors to keep warm in winter.

4. Watering tips

Smooth Sailing likes moisture, but avoids stagnant water. When watering, you need to follow the principle of "water when dry and water when wet", that is, water thoroughly after the soil surface is dry. When the temperature is high in summer, you can increase the frequency of watering appropriately and spray moisture around the plants. In winter, reduce watering and keep the soil in the pot dry.

5. Fertilization method

The plant likes fertilizer but cannot tolerate concentrated fertilizer. During the growing season (spring and autumn), apply thin liquid fertilizer every 10 days. You can also apply multi-element compound fertilizer 2-3 times a month to promote leaf growth and flowering. When applying fertilizer, be careful to dilute it to avoid burning the roots.

6. Pruning and repotting

The smooth sailing plant grows vigorously, so you need to trim the yellow leaves regularly to keep the plant clean. Every spring, you can carry out division propagation in combination with repotting, replace new culture soil, and prune old and diseased roots.

7. Pest and disease control

Common diseases of Yifanfengshun include leaf spot and root rot, which can be controlled with carbendazim or thiophanate-methyl. The main insect pest is red spider mites, which can be sprayed with special insecticides . Pay attention to ventilation at ordinary times to avoid water accumulation on the leaves.

8. Flowering Management

To promote the flowering of the plant, sufficient scattered light and suitable temperature and humidity are required. At the same time, appropriately increasing the proportion of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers when fertilizing will help flower bud differentiation.

The above-mentioned maintenance methods of the smooth sailing plant can effectively promote the healthy growth of the smooth sailing plant, making its leaves green and flowers lush, adding an elegant atmosphere to the room.
