How many days does it take for garlic to sprout?

There are many varieties of garlic , and growers are advised to choose varieties with strong growth, high yield, good quality and strong disease resistance. The planting time of garlic varies from region to region and is generally divided into spring sowing and autumn sowing. So how many days does it take for garlic to sprout? Let’s take a look with the editor below.

1. How many days does it take for garlic to sprout?

The time it takes for garlic to germinate after planting depends on many factors, including the variety of garlic, temperature, humidity, and soil conditions at the time of planting. Generally speaking, under suitable conditions, it takes about 7 to 14 days for garlic to germinate after planting. If the temperature is lower, it may take longer. To ensure that the garlic can germinate successfully, it is necessary to provide a suitable temperature, usually between 15-25 degrees Celsius, keep the soil moist but not too wet, and ensure sufficient light. Note that garlic prefers a slightly cooler environment, so it should not be planted too late, otherwise the temperature will be too high, which is not conducive to germination.

2. Garlic planting method

1. Sowing time

Northern region: Due to the cold winter climate, it is not suitable to plant garlic in autumn, so it is mostly sown in spring. Spring sowing time is generally concentrated in April, but the specific time depends on local climatic conditions. If sowing is too early, the garlic may be damaged by frost; if sowing is too late, the growth and yield of garlic will be affected.

Southern region: Garlic is usually planted in mid-to-late September each year. The climate is cool and humid at this time, which is conducive to the rapid germination and growth of garlic. When sowing in autumn, the seedlings can safely overwinter in the open air, laying the foundation for a good harvest next year. If sowing is too early, the seedlings will grow too vigorously before wintering and consume nutrients, reducing their ability to overwinter; if sowing is too late, the seedlings will be small, the tissues will be tender, the root system will be weak, the accumulated nutrients will be less, and the cold resistance will be lower.

2. Sowing method

Row sowing: dig furrows with a row spacing of 20-25 cm and a depth of about 5 cm. Plant the garlic seeds evenly in the furrows and then cover with soil and compact it.

Spot seeding: Dig holes at a spacing of 10-15 cm between plants, place 2-3 seeds in each hole, and maintain 7,000-8,000 seedlings per acre. Before sowing, it is also necessary to peel off the garlic skin and stem plate, select garlic cloves with larger particles as seeds, and dry them in the sun to germinate.

The above is an introduction to how many days it takes for garlic to germinate. If the environment temperature suitable for growth can be provided after garlic is planted, it will germinate and emerge from the soil in about 15 days. Pay attention to the method when planting and control the density. After planting, maintain a suitable temperature and moist soil environment so that it can germinate as scheduled.
