Cultivation methods and precautions of Oncidium

Cultivation methods and precautions of Oncidium

1. Soil

The soil requirements of Oncidium are mainly drainage and air permeability. Specifically, you can mix crushed fern roots, peat soil, charcoal, vermiculite, and sphagnum moss in a ratio of about four to one to two to two to one. In addition, in order to enhance the overall air permeability, you can also put some broken tiles at the bottom of the basin.

2. Lighting

Oncidium itself likes semi-shade and is afraid of strong light. Therefore, full light can only be provided in winter. In other seasons, if the light is too strong, shade should be provided. Too much light can cause the leaves to become sunburned.

3. Temperature

Different varieties have slightly different temperature requirements. The thick-leaved varieties prefer a temperature range of 18 to 25 degrees, and the temperature cannot drop below 12 degrees in winter to survive the winter. Varieties with thin leaves have lower temperature requirements and can grow well at temperatures between 10 and 22 degrees, as long as the temperature does not drop below 8 degrees in winter. ,

4. Watering

When watering Oncidium, you should follow the principle of moderation. After the surface of the soil is dry, you can give it an appropriate amount of water. Water most when growth is most vigorous, and water twice a day, morning and evening. However, water should be controlled in winter. Especially when the temperature is below ten degrees, you can stop watering.

5. Fertilization

Oncidium does not require much fertilizer and only needs to be applied in spring and autumn. Generally once every twenty days, organic fertilizer can be used.
