How to spend the winter with roses

How to spend the winter with roses

1. Keep warm and protect against cold

Although roses have a certain degree of cold resistance, they still need to be protected from the cold in winter and should be moved indoors to avoid overwintering in low temperatures. Especially for seedlings, it is necessary to take measures to keep out the cold. If conditions permit, you can build a special cold-proof shed to allow the plants to spend the winter in a warmer place.

2. Reduce water volume

Because the temperature in winter is relatively low, the moisture in the potting soil is difficult to evaporate, so the amount of watering should not be the same as in summer. Just keep the soil from becoming compacted during the winter. Generally, you can meet its water requirements by adding water in time after the cultivation soil becomes dry.

3. Stop fertilizing

The plant will temporarily dormant in winter and it does not need nutrients during this period, so stop fertilizing during the winter. If the plant is still fertilized normally, root burn will occur, which will have a great impact on its successful wintering.

4. Slightly trim

In the cold winter, some withered branches and leaves will appear on the plants. Once discovered, they should be cut off and cleaned up in time. Proper pruning is also very beneficial for the plants to sprout new branches.
