When it comes to the efficacy of Xu Changqing, the most well-known one is the treatment of snake bites. According to legend, a long time ago, Emperor Li Shimin was bitten by a poisonous snake in the wild while hunting. None of the imperial doctors in the palace could cure him, but he was cured by a country doctor named Xu Changqing. The doctor used at that time was the "snake dysentery grass" which was not yet called Xu Changqing. Li Shimin did not express his commendation for the doctor, but named the grass Xu Changqing, and it has been passed down to this day.

In fact, Xu Changqing is not only effective in treating snake venom, but also has the effects of relieving cough and clearing phlegm, reducing swelling and removing blood stasis, and treating various skin diseases and various joint neuralgia.

Xu Changqing can be used to treat rheumatism, eczema, and lichen skin diseases. Generally, only Xu Changqing alone is needed to be boiled in water and applied to the affected area for cleaning. It can also be used together with some heat-clearing and dampness-removing medicines to make decoction.
