Cultivation methods and precautions of elm

Cultivation methods and precautions of elm

1. Soil

It usually grows in sandy places, hills or valleys, so ordinary soil can meet its needs and it has strong adaptability. However, it is best to use fertile soil with good drainage when breeding, which can be prepared by mixing manure and peat soil.

2. Lighting

Elm trees like light, so you need to provide them with sufficient light exposure time during maintenance, no less than 8 hours a day. Otherwise, the branches and leaves will become thinner and the growth rate will slow down.

3. Watering

It cannot grow in an environment where the potting soil is too humid. Do not water it excessively during maintenance. Even in the hot season, do not add water at will. Slight dryness is conducive to growth. However, once the humidity is high, the roots are prone to rot, affecting growth and even causing death.

4. Fertilization

It consumes a lot of nutrients during the peak growing season, so it needs to be supplemented with fertilizers frequently. Apply decomposed cake fertilizer once every half a month or so, and combine it with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. In addition, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied once before winter to improve cold resistance.

5. Notes

It is easy to develop forked branches and weeds during its growth period, so it is necessary to trim them in time. Pruning can usually be done all year round, but be careful not to prune too much in the summer and rainy season to avoid high temperature or high humidity conditions that cause nutrient loss and lead to dead branches.
