Cultivation methods and precautions of Xifu Begonia

Cultivation methods and precautions of Xifu Begonia

1. Soil

Its rhizomes are very fragile, so when cultivating it, you need to use fertile, loose, well-drained nutrient soil. You can use three parts of river sand and peat soil, and then mix them with four parts of leaf mold.

2. Watering

It is drought-tolerant and afraid of waterlogging. Therefore, you don’t need to water if the soil is not dry. It will be fine if the soil is slightly moist at other times. But be careful not to wait until the soil becomes compacted before adding water, otherwise the roots will be injured, affecting growth and causing the leaves to turn yellow.

3. Fertilization

Its growth cannot be separated from the nourishment of fertilizer. It is necessary to apply fertilizer frequently and supplement nutrients. Apply fertilizer once a week before flowering in spring to promote flowering and make the flowers more colorful. After the flowers fade, you need to add fertilizer once every ten days. At this time, you should increase the concentration and continue to do so until July or August.

4. Pruning

During maintenance, it is also necessary to prune in time. Prune once a year after the leaves fall, and cut off diseased and insect-infested branches, dead branches and thin branches to allow better ventilation and save nutrients. In addition, the plants should be pinched during the growth period to control the plant shape, especially those grown in pots, which cannot be left to grow. Only pinching can promote the sprouting of short branches.

5. Notes

During maintenance, insect pests are inevitable, especially aphids and beetles. In addition, there are some diseases, most of which are rot diseases, which need to be controlled by spraying drugs in time, otherwise it will seriously affect the appearance and growth.
