Cultivation methods and precautions of false forsythia

Cultivation methods and precautions of false forsythia

1. Temperature

During maintenance, the best temperature is 18 to 26 degrees, which is more suitable and will allow it to grow very fast. It has poor cold resistance and is prone to frostbite if the temperature is below 5 degrees in winter, so care must be taken to control it.

2. Lighting

It likes light and is also shade-tolerant. It needs to be exposed to sufficient sunlight during its growth period so that the flower color will be more colorful. If there is insufficient light, it will affect the viewing experience and the flower color will fade.

3. Watering

Forsythia suspensa is not drought-tolerant, so it needs to be watered more frequently during its growth period to meet its needs. However, care must be taken to prevent any accumulation of water, especially during the rainy season, and drainage must be carried out in a timely manner. Control water in winter, and it’s better if the soil in the pot is drier.

4. Fertilization

The plant consumes more fertilizer during the growing period because it requires a lot of nutrients for both growth and flowering, so it is necessary to apply fertilizer frequently. The frequency is about once every half a month. Nitrogen fertilizer is mainly selected during the growing period. Potassium fertilizer and phosphorus fertilizer are applied more before and after flowering to promote flowering and prolong the fruit viewing time.

5. Pests and diseases

Aphids and caterpillars are prone to damage during the growing season. The main disease is sunscald. Once discovered, timely prevention and control should be carried out to avoid further deterioration and affect growth.

6. Notes

The plant needs to be repotted once every one to two years, preferably in spring. It is best to replace the soil with new one when repotting it so that the nutrients are more sufficient and beneficial to growth. In addition, pay attention to pruning and cut off diseased and dead branches to save nutrients and increase light transmittance.
