How many days does it take for coriander to germinate?

Coriander, also known as cilantro, has a special aromatic smell. As a seasoning vegetable in daily life, it is deeply loved by people. Many people grow coriander at home. So how many days does it take for coriander to germinate? Let’s take a look below.

1. How many days does it take for coriander to germinate?

The germination time of coriander (which we commonly call cilantro) is affected by many factors, including seed quality, soil environment, temperature, humidity and maintenance conditions. When temperature, humidity, light and other conditions are suitable, coriander seeds generally take 7 to 14 days to germinate and emerge from the soil. In order to increase the germination rate and emergence speed of coriander, you can take some measures, such as selecting high-quality seeds, properly treating the seeds before sowing (such as rubbing off the seed skin), keeping the soil moist and controlling the appropriate temperature, etc.

2. Planting time of coriander

The best time to plant coriander is from March to May. It is generally planted by sowing. The temperature during planting should be controlled between 15 and 20°C. Choose a mixed soil containing garden soil, sand and gravel, peat soil, perlite and humus. The seeds need to be cold-resistant small-leaf varieties. The suitable growth temperature for coriander is 17~20℃. It likes a warm growing environment. When the temperature exceeds 30℃, the plant will stop growing. When the temperature is higher than 20℃, the plant will grow slowly.

3. How to plant coriander

1. Seed selection and processing: It is recommended to choose small-leaf varieties when selecting seeds because they have a stronger fragrance. And be sure to choose those with full, healthy and fresh grains. After selecting, poke off the skin and soak it in clean water. The seeds will swell after about 24 hours and can be taken out directly.

2. Deeply plow the soil: Before planting, you must first deeply plow the land to ensure that the soil is loose, and also sprinkle some farmyard manure in moderation to make the nutrients more sufficient.

3. Direct sowing: It can be sown after treatment. Simply sprinkle the prepared seeds evenly on top. After sowing, cover with a thin layer of soil and it will germinate in about a week.

4. Timely emergence of seedlings: Thinning should be carried out after germination. Remove the seeds that are too densely spread and ensure that the distance between two plants is more than one centimeter. Pay attention to the time of thinning out the seedlings. Don't do it too early. Wait until they grow bigger before processing them. This way, the seedlings will not be wasted and can be eaten directly.

5. Post-management:

① Coriander is a light-loving plant and needs to be kept in a place with sufficient light on a daily basis. In summer, the light is strong and appropriate shading is needed to prevent the plant from being sunburned.

② Coriander likes moisture, so it needs to be replenished with water in time during the growth period. Be careful not to water it too much, just keep the soil in the pot slightly moist.

③During the growth period of coriander, appropriate amount of fertilizer needs to be added. Be careful not to make the fertilizer concentration too high and do not apply raw fertilizer.

④ After the seedlings appear, nutrients should be supplemented in time and nitrogen fertilizer should be applied in an appropriate amount. It is best to do it at the same time as watering. In addition, weeding must be done in a timely manner, otherwise it will compete for nutrients and be detrimental to the growth of seedlings.
