How to grow potted violets

How to grow potted violets

For potted violets, you should choose short-planted double-flowered varieties. During the seedling stage, you should choose seedlings with light-colored leaves, oval shapes, and wavy shapes.

Potted violets are suitable for

The diameter of the pot for potted violets should be about 25 cm. For cultivation, choose sterilized, loose, fertile culture soil, apply base fertilizer in the basin, and plant 3 plants in each basin.

How to choose violet culture soil

Violets like loose, fertile, acidic soil. When potting, you can use a culture soil made of 1/3 leaf mold, peat soil and sand.

Violet light needs to be appropriate

Violets prefer semi-shady environment. However, too much shade will cause the violets to bloom too few or no flowers; if the light is too strong, the leaves will turn yellow and the plant will dry up and be damaged.

The temperature of violets should be suitable

The suitable growth temperature for violets is 18℃-24℃. When the temperature exceeds 27℃, violets will grow poorly and lack water. The temperature will drop below 12℃ in late autumn and early winter. At this time, the potted violets should be moved indoors for cultivation, otherwise they will be frozen.

Watering violets

Water the violets thoroughly and place them in a cool, dark place. After 3-4 days, place them in a well-ventilated sunny place. Of course, don't water too much, otherwise it will cause root rot. At the same time, be careful not to splash it on the leaves, otherwise it will cause the leaves to rot.

Potted violets should be lightly fertilized

During the growth and development period of violets, apply a thin layer of decomposed liquid fertilizer or compound fertilizer about once every 7-10 days. Do not apply too much nitrogen fertilizer. The best ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium is 1:1:1. After the flower buds appear, apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to make the flowers larger and more colorful.

Pinching and collecting seeds for potted violets

When the plant grows to about 9 leaves, it needs to be topped to promote branching. When the plant grows to 40cm, it needs to be supported by thin bamboo poles.

For seed preservation, harvest the seeds in time when the siliques turn yellow but before they crack.
