What are the methods of growing ginseng fruit?

There are two main methods of planting ginseng fruit : seed sowing and seedling cuttings. Among them, the germination rate of seedling cuttings is relatively high, but seed sowing can maintain the species characteristics, facilitate seed disinfection, and avoid the trouble of facing diseases like cuttings.

1. Cutting

(1) Select a plot of land that is high, flat, has fertile, loose soil, and has not been used to grow Solanaceae crops in recent years as the seedbed.

(2) When grafting, it is best to choose branches that are over 30 cm long, strong, tender, and free of pests and diseases.

(3) After selecting the branches, cut them into small pieces 12 cm long, remove the leaves and leave the petioles. When taking cuttings in winter, the branches only need to be buried 3-5 cm in the soil, and the cuttings can be shortened appropriately. The survival rate will be high only if the cutting and planting are done immediately.

(4) To promote rooting of branches, the lower end of the branch should be cut into an inclined surface and the lower 1/3 of the branch should be quickly dipped in 50-200 μl/L naphthaleneacetic acid or indoleacetic acid. When cutting, first water the plants sufficiently and then do the cuttings.

2. Planting

(1) Choose ginseng fruit seeds that have good color, uniform size, and are dry and free of mold. Soaking seeds in warm water and mixing them with medicine before sowing can achieve the goal of early germination, uniform germination and strong seedlings.

(2) The seeds can be broadcast and covered with fine sand after sowing. If conditions permit, you can use a greenhouse to grow seedlings. After sowing, control the temperature between 15-30 degrees, and seedlings will generally emerge in 7-10 days.

(3) When the seedlings grow to about 15 cm, they can be transplanted. Before transplanting, dig trenches or holes according to the row spacing . Water the trenches first, and then place the seedlings in the trenches or holes when the water seeps into the soil.

In general, the specific planting time of ginseng fruit is different due to differences in planting conditions, planting methods and other factors. Therefore, growers must master the techniques of timely planting so as to achieve high yields and good benefits.
