Sweet potato is an important food crop with rich nutritional and economic value. Its planting advantages such as high yield, drought resistance, barrenness resistance and strong adaptability are also very obvious. Therefore, it is loved by the majority of growers. So how to grow red pepper to get high yield? Let’s learn more about it below. 1. Plot selection Sweet potatoes prefer a warm, sunny environment, so you should choose a plot with higher terrain, good ventilation, light and good drainage. The soil should be loose and fertile sandy loam or yellow loam, with a pH value between 5.5-6.5. 2. Land preparation and fertilization Before land preparation, the residues in the land need to be cleaned up to reduce the occurrence of diseases and pests. Then carry out deep plowing, the depth should be about 25 cm, and apply sufficient base fertilizer. About 3,000 kilograms of high-temperature-decomposed farmyard manure and 50-100 kilograms of compound fertilizer can be applied per mu of land. 3. Seed selection and seedling raising When raising potato seedlings, it is advisable to choose potato tubers that are of moderate size, neat and uniform, free of pests and diseases, wounds, and cold damage as seeds. Cut the sweet potato tubers into small pieces, each with 1-2 buds, and then spread them flat on moist sandy or peat soil, maintaining appropriate temperature and humidity for germination. When the potato seedlings grow to 15-30 cm, they can be planted. 4. Planting method When planting, the sweet potato seedlings should be inserted into the soil at a depth of 1/3-1/2 of the seedling length, and the plant spacing should be 30-40 cm. In addition, in order to increase yield, it is recommended to adopt ridge planting method for larger plots of land. Note that you should water the plants in time after planting to keep the soil moist to promote the survival and growth of the potato seedlings. 5. Field management It includes tillage and weeding, watering and fertilizing, pinching and topping, etc. In addition, timely tillage and weeding should be carried out during the growing period to prevent weeds from competing with sweet potatoes for water and nutrients. In terms of disease and pest control, we should adopt a prevention-oriented and comprehensive control strategy to promptly remove diseased and damaged plants and reduce sources of disease. 6. Harvest and storage Sweet potatoes are usually harvested before the beginning of frost to avoid freezing damage to the tubers due to low temperatures. When harvesting, the sweet potatoes should be dug out of the soil, excess soil and leaves should be removed, and they should be dried in the sun until the skin is dry before storage. The above is the sharing of high-yield cultivation techniques for sweet potatoes. Of course, specific adjustments need to be made based on actual planting conditions. But if you basically master these techniques and key points, you can usually get good returns.
