Can raspberries be propagated by cuttings?

Can raspberries be propagated by cuttings?

Raspberry is a perennial upright small shrub. Raspberry likes sunshine, has strong adaptability to the environment, and has a long plant life. If managed well, it can generally survive for 20 years. Raspberry is also a relatively easy plant to propagate, and there are many propagation methods, mainly two categories: root propagation and strip propagation.

Raspberry cutting propagation

Raspberry trees can be propagated by cuttings. The sand bed for raspberry cuttings should be prepared in advance. Coarse coal slag can be used at the bottom, coarse river sand can be used in the middle part, and fine river sand can be used in the upper part. Before cuttings, it is necessary to disinfect it with potassium permanganate solution in advance, so that the raspberries after cuttings can grow better.

Raspberry cutting time

The best time for raspberry cuttings is in early spring, around February or March, when the climate begins to warm up and the growth momentum begins to emerge, which can promote vigorous growth in the later period. The survival rate of raspberry cuttings at this time is also relatively high.

Raspberry cutting propagation method

The method of propagating raspberries by cuttings is relatively simple. To choose cuttings, you need to cut them from well-growing and strong mother plants. Cut strong semi-lignified green branches as cuttings, with a length of about 15-20 cm. Make sure there are 2-3 nodes on the cuttings. Cut the lower part of the branch at an angle to ensure a certain inclined surface before you can use it for cuttings.
