How to sow and raise seedlings of potted daisies

Sowing seeds for potted daisies

Daisy seeds are very small, with 4900-6600 seeds per gram, and most households sow them in September. The temperature difference between the north and the south is large, so southern families mainly sow in August.

For potted sowing, loose and breathable pots should be used. The flower pots are disinfected and covered with a thin layer of vermiculite so that the seeds are not visible. When the daisy seedlings have 2-3 true leaves, they can be transplanted. The pH value of the medium for sowing should be between 5.8-6.5, and the EC value should be between 0.5-0.75. After sowing, keep the room temperature at 18-20℃ and the humidity at 80-90%, and it will germinate in 5-8 days.

After sowing, maintain the indoor temperature at 18-22°C and the humidity at 80-90%. The radicle will emerge in about a week. After germination, the medium must still be kept moist and needs to be placed on the balcony to provide light, but the light should not be too strong during germination and appropriate shade should be provided. In July and August, shade is still needed around noon to reduce temperature.

Phase 1

The humidity during this stage is 70-80%, allowing it to absorb nutrients for the expansion of its cotyledons. The room temperature is controlled at 16-20℃ and you can start fertilizing when the first pair of true leaves unfold, mainly with water-soluble fertilizers. A transplant can be performed afterwards.

Phase II

This stage is the rapid growth period of the seedlings. It is necessary to prevent the medium from being too wet, and special fertilizers for flowers need to be applied alternately.

Due to the temperature and transpiration, liquid fertilizer is generally applied every 2-3 days instead of watering.

If fertilizer is applied once in a while, the concentration can be increased to 70-100ppm.

Note: However, the medium should be allowed to dry slightly between watering or fertilizing, and alternating dry and wet conditions can be used to promote seedling growth and root development. When the seedlings have 2-3 pairs of true leaves, are 3-100px tall, and their root systems are basically fully developed, the next stage of seedling hardening can be carried out.

Phase 3

At this stage, the seedlings have fully grown roots and have 2 pairs of true leaves. You can consider the process of hardening the seedlings before potting. The temperature is the same as the previous stage, and the humidity is slightly lower. Moisture control is especially important at this stage. It needs sufficient sunlight, enhanced ventilation, and controlled indoor temperature and humidity to prevent it from growing too tall.
