Cultivation methods and precautions of boxwood

The melon-seed boxwood, also known as boxwood and thousand-year dwarf, is cultivated in the Yangtze River Basin and all areas to the south of my country and is very popular. It is an easy-to-grow plant that grows fast, has a wide adaptability to the environment, and can grow healthily in general environments.

Cultivation method of boxwood

1. Soil

Boxwood likes loose, fertile and breathable soil. Water must not be accumulated in the soil of the bonsai, otherwise the roots will easily be waterlogged. Therefore, when preparing the soil yourself, you can choose to use humus soil, garden soil and river sand in a ratio of 4:4:2, and finally add a little base fertilizer.

2. Container

When planting boxwood, you can choose a container with beautiful and grand appearance, good internal drainage and ventilation. You can use a square or round pot with a large diameter that is suitable for the growth size of boxwood.

3. Lighting

Boxwood is a sun-loving and shade-tolerant plant that can maintain good growth both indoors and outdoors. However, attention should be paid to the light problem when growing it indoors. If the plant is in a dark environment for a long time, it will affect the growth of its branches. It is generally recommended that it be grown outdoors.

4. Humidity

Boxwood likes a humid environment and is very resistant to moisture. There is no need to worry about rain when planting it outdoors. It can survive even if it rains for a month. If water accumulates for a long time, drainage must be done in time.

5. Fertilization

When planting boxwood, you can apply some base fertilizer. The fertilizer must be decomposed cake fertilizer. Fertilization can be combined with watering from May to August every year. Apply more nitrogen fertilizer. After August, you can switch to potassium fertilizer.

Precautions for caring for boxwood

1. The growth rate of boxwood is very fast. Although it will not grow too tall, it is easy to grow many branches. In addition to pruning old branches, dead branches, and diseased branches, the dense branches should also be thinned out to make the bonsai more beautiful.

2. When cultivating boxwood, you should also pay attention to pest problems. Common pests include scale insects and boxwood crabs. You can use manual brushing methods or some pesticides to kill them.
