Loquat seed sowing

Loquat seeds can be sown in spring or autumn. The best sowing time in spring is February to May, and the best sowing time in autumn is August to October. The temperature at this time is suitable for seed germination, and the survival rate of planting is higher.

How to plant loquat seeds

1. Collect the seeds of the loquats after eating, place them in a well-ventilated environment to dry, and peel off the skin.

2. Loquat has a wide adaptability to soil and can grow in general soil, but it is best to put broken tiles at the bottom of the flowerpot, spread a layer of coarse sand, put some nutrient soil, and then put the loquat seeds in the pot, cover them with 5 mm of soil, and water them thoroughly.

3. Then place the flower pot in a semi-shaded environment, maintain good ventilation, water it in time, and have weak scattered light. The seedlings will emerge in about 2 weeks.

4. Because loquat seedlings are sturdy and have large leaves, they have high requirements for the size of the pots. Generally speaking, in the early stage, you should use a purple clay pot with a slightly smaller diameter to control the growth of the loquat. After the loquat has been repotted twice, you can replace it with a small pot with a diameter of about 10 cm.

5. Loquat needs proper pruning and fertilization during its growth process. The main trunk can be left 20-30 cm high, and dense, leggy, and thin branches can be pruned to enhance ventilation and light transmittance. Some areas with few branches and bare branches can be shortened. Loquat saplings should be fertilized once every two months, mainly with organic fertilizers, and adult fruit-bearing trees should be fertilized four times a year.
