How to plant Epiphyllum

How to plant Epiphyllum

1. Light and temperature: Epiphyllum is a shade-loving plant. In daily maintenance, you only need to provide it with scattered light. Avoid direct sunlight in summer and control the temperature between 15-25 degrees. When the temperature in winter is below 10 degrees, move it to a warm place indoors in time.

2. Watering: The watering methods for Epiphyllum are different in different seasons. In spring and autumn, the climate is relatively mild, so watering once every 2-3 days is sufficient. In summer, the weather is hot, so watering is required 1-2 times a day. In winter, the temperature is low, and excessive watering will cause frost damage. Generally, watering is required once every 5-7 days.

Epiphyllum growth habits

Epiphyllum likes to grow in a warm, humid, semi-shady environment. It is not frost-resistant and avoids strong sunlight. It has relatively high requirements for temperature. The suitable growth temperature is 15-25℃, and the wintering temperature is 10-12℃. The soil requirements should be slightly acidic sandy soil that is rich in humus, has good drainage, and is loose and fertile.

How to plant Epiphyllum

1. Planting time: Epiphyllum can be planted all year round, but March to May is the best time. You can choose cuttings for propagation, and the cuttings should be healthier and thicker leaf stems. Cut 2-3 nodes into sections, then dry the roots and insert them into a clean sand bed.

1. Potting soil: Epiphyllum prefers slightly acidic sandy soil that is rich in humus, well-drained, loose, fertile, and the potting soil can be mixed with leaf mold, garden soil, and sandy soil in a ratio of 4:4:2. When planting, put a layer of broken tiles or bricks at the bottom of the pot to increase air permeability and drainage.

2. Light and temperature: Epiphyllum needs sunlight to grow, and the suitable temperature for growth is between 15-25℃. When the temperature is too high in summer, the Epiphyllum should be placed in a place without direct sunlight and shaded. When the temperature is low in winter, the Epiphyllum needs to be moved indoors to overwinter and placed in a sunny place indoors with sufficient light.

Precautions for growing Epiphyllum

1. Pay attention to fertilizer and water: When growing Epiphyllum, it is necessary to do a good job of water and fertilizer management, strictly control water, and apply fertilizer reasonably. If there is insufficient water and fertilizer, Epiphyllum will not bloom easily, and in severe cases it will cause the death of the plant.

2. Pay attention to light. Epiphyllum is a plant that likes warm, humid and semi-shaded environment. It needs sufficient light but avoids direct exposure to the sun. It can be placed on the balcony for indoor cultivation, which provides light, avoids direct exposure to the sun and provides ventilation.
