How to propagate gardenia by cuttings

How to propagate gardenia by cuttings

Before propagating gardenia by cuttings, you must choose suitable branches to increase the chances of successful cuttings. Generally speaking, it is best to choose branches that are strong and free of pests and diseases. If they are two-year-old branches, it will be even better. After cutting, clean up the leaves below and keep no more than 2-3 leaves to avoid wasting too much nutrients.

Gardenia cutting time

The most suitable time for gardenia cuttings is generally around June, August and October. However, for novices, the air humidity and ambient temperature change greatly in these months and are difficult to control. Therefore, if you lack experience, it is best to choose mid-April for cuttings. The temperature at this time is suitable, the air is neither dry nor wet, and the chances of successful cuttings are higher.

Gardenia cutting method

If you want a high survival rate for gardenia cuttings, you must meet its growth temperature requirements. Generally speaking, the temperature suitable for gardenia growth is between 20 degrees Celsius and 35 degrees Celsius, and the higher the temperature, the higher the survival rate of the cuttings. The minimum growth environment temperature should not be lower than 15 degrees Celsius, otherwise it is likely to cause the plant to turn black.

Gardenia cutting rooting

If you want gardenia cuttings to take root quickly, you can prepare some rooting liquid, dilute it in water, and soak the flower stems for about 20 minutes before cutting. Then prepare a pot of nutrient soil with good air permeability, insert the branches into the soil and compact the soil, water it thoroughly once, and then place it in a location with scattered light and good ventilation. This will help it take root quickly.
