When and how to transplant shallots

When and how to transplant shallots

Scallions are cultivated by first cultivating new seedlings in a concentrated manner and then dividing them. First, the seedlings must be screened to remove diseased, injured, weak and other problematic seedlings, and then good seedlings are selected for planting.

Time to transplant shallots

The time for transplanting green onions is generally around May to July each year. The climate during this period is more suitable, which is conducive to the survival of the onions after planting and can also promote their later growth and development.

Green onion transplanting technology

The method of transplanting shallots is very simple. First, dig out the seedlings. Be careful to dig deeper to avoid damaging the root system. After digging, only leave the root system intact. Then pull out the clusters with your hands. The pulled-out plants should have stem plates and roots. After screening, cut off the tips of the fibrous roots, leaving 2 to 3 cm to promote the development of new roots. Then place the shallots on one side of the ditch, placing one every 3 cm. After all are placed, cover them with a thin layer of soil and press them firmly with your feet. The shallots are now planted.

Management of shallot transplantation

Scallions like a humid environment and have limited drought tolerance, so when you touch the soil surface and feel it is dry, you should water it. Scallions can grow quickly with sufficient water. If the soil is dry or too humid, it will easily cause the roots to become thick and the leaf tips to wither, which will affect the quality of the scallions.
