When to transplant hydrangeas

When to transplant hydrangeas

Hydrangea is a flower plant that is very worth growing. It has a wide adaptability to the environment. Whether it is grown in a place with scattered light or in a place with full sunlight, whether it is grown on a balcony or outdoors, it can grow very vigorously and have lush branches and leaves.

Hydrangea transplanting time

It is recommended to transplant hydrangeas in March and April in spring. The temperature is basically stable at this time and the plants are in the growing season. Transplanting at this time can reduce damage to them and promote their resumption of growth as soon as possible.

How to transplant hydrangea

1. Removal from the pot: Stop watering the hydrangea before transplanting it. This will make it easier to remove from the pot. When removing the plant from the pot, hold the plant with one hand and turn it upside down. Alternatively, you can use tools to loosen the surrounding soil and then take out the plant.

2. Root pruning: After removing the hydrangea from the pot, check the growth of the roots, trim off the rotten roots, dead roots, and old roots, and keep the strong root system. After root pruning, place it in a cool and ventilated place to dry properly, and then plant it in the soil.

3. Planting in pots: prepare loose and breathable soil. The soil can be mixed with river sand, leaf mold and an appropriate amount of base fertilizer in the garden soil. This mixture can basically meet its needs for soil. Put the new soil into the flowerpot, then put the plant in, fill it with soil from all sides, and compact the soil.

Management of hydrangea after transplanting

After transplanting hydrangeas, water them to help them take root. Be careful to water them thoroughly to keep the soil moist. Keep them in a warm, well-ventilated environment and they will soon resume growth. After they grow normally, water and fertilize them in time to make them bloom better.
