What is a rose blind branch

The so-called blind branches of roses are easy to understand. We see that the tops of rose branches will wither. Of course, there are many reasons for the withering. In this way, the tops of rose branches will not have vitality and will not be able to grow long.

Such branches are often regarded as blind branches of roses. Due to various reasons, the new buds of roses shrink, which we often call blind buds.

The blind branches of roses not only will not bloom, but will also consume a lot of nutrients. Therefore, it is very beneficial for the flowering of our roses to deal with the blind branches of roses at the appropriate time.

Why are all roses blind branches?

1. Lack of light

We all know that roses are light-loving plants and must have sufficient light to grow. Otherwise, no matter how hard you try, you won’t be able to grow roses well.

Light is the basic condition for plant photosynthesis. Insufficient light will affect photosynthesis, and the synthesized nutrients will be insufficient, resulting in poor growth such as blind branches.

Lack of light mainly manifests in the following two aspects: first, the light in the maintenance environment itself is poor, such as roses maintained outdoors and roses with more shade. The second situation is that the branches at the bottom of the rose are blocked by the upper part and cannot receive sunlight.

As for the problem of light, the solution is very simple. First, choose a place with good light and sunlight for cultivation . Second, prune the overly dense branches to ensure that the lower branches and leaves can also receive sunlight .

2. Insufficient nutrients

Rose is a fertilizer-loving plant, and it needs to be fertilized frequently during its growth period. If it is not fertilized for a long time, resulting in insufficient nutrition supply, it will be insufficient in nutrients, and then blind branches will appear.

Fertilizing roses should be timely. I usually fertilize roses every 7 days, and the concentration of fertilizer should not be too high each time.

In addition to regular fertilization, appropriate adjustments should be made according to the different growth stages of roses. Before roses sprout in spring, use high-nitrogen compound fertilizers. Before roses bloom, use compound fertilizers with high phosphorus and potassium content.

Add some nitrogen fertilizer in time after the flowers fade, and use decomposed organic fertilizer before winter.

3. Untimely pruning

Roses grow quickly, so pruning is very important.

If the rose is not pruned and allowed to grow, most of the nutrients will be occupied by the upper branches due to apical dominance, resulting in an unbalanced nutrient supply. The weak branches will not have enough nutrients and blind branches will appear.

The pruning of roses is divided into two stages. The first is the pruning of roses after their leaves fall in winter, and heavy pruning is generally used during this pruning.

Another thing is pruning during the growing season. After each flowering, the withered petals should be cut off in time.

At the same time, the branches should be appropriately shortened and some of the dense branches should be thinned out. This can promote the sprouting of more branches of the rose, so that there will be more flowers next time.

Treatment methods for rose blind branches

Through the above analysis, we know that the reasons for blind branches and buds in roses include light, temperature, pruning, nutrition, varieties, pests and diseases, etc. Therefore, if we want to solve the blind branches and buds of roses in summer, we must find small ideas to solve them from these aspects.

Blind branches of roses will consume nutrients in vain. There is no need to keep some weak blind branches, so they can be cut off in time.

If the position of the blind branch is good and there are no other branches in this direction, what we need to do is to restore the growth of the blind branch and promote its regrowth. The operation method is very simple, just cut off a section from the end, and the axillary buds will grow again.
