When does Mo Lan sprout and grow leaves (cultivation methods and maintenance techniques after Mo Lan sprouts new leaves)

When does the black orchid sprout?

Molan is also called "Announcement of the Year Orchid". It usually blooms from New Year's Day to March of the following year. There are two budding times in a year. The first leaf buds sprout from around March to the end of May, and the flower buds begin to grow around September .

The leaves of Mo Lan are dark green and slightly wider. It is a green plant that can be grown for viewing its leaves and flowers.

How to care for Molan so that it can sprout new buds

First, planting materials:

It is recommended to use the three traditional planting materials for Mo Lan, namely, earth soil + tree bark + planting stone. This is the experience summarized by predecessors who grow orchids and is suitable for most orchids.

If flower lovers are troubled by the source of planting materials, they can use bark + weathered rock + rusty sand, which is also very suitable for the growth of Mo Lan.

The planting material mix can be varied, but it must emphasize air permeability and drainage, with a slightly acidic pH value and a prominent granular structure.

Second, the environment:

Molan is not cold-resistant, drought-resistant, or heat-resistant.

When caring for the Mo Lan, keep it in a location with a temperature of approximately 16 to 28 degrees Celsius. Give it sufficient light every day when the temperature is suitable. Bring it indoors for the winter when the temperature is as low as 10 degrees Celsius. When the temperature is above 30 degrees Celsius, increase ventilation and provide shade.

The Mo Lan grown on the balcony must be guaranteed to have at least bright light and at least 3 hours of light every day, otherwise it will affect its flowering.

Third, water appropriately:

Molan is not drought-tolerant and is afraid of overwatering . When it loses water, it is easy for the roots to wither and the leaves to turn yellow. When there is too much water, the roots will lack oxygen and rot. When watering, you should follow the principle of "don't water unless it is dry, and water thoroughly when you do", and you should also be flexible according to the season.

In winter and spring, you can water the plants for about 5 to 7 days after the surface of the planting material has dried and the color has lightened . In summer and autumn, you can water the plants in the evening of the same day. If you use tap water for watering, you need to put the tap water in the container first and let it dry for about a week.

Fourth, fertilization:

It is recommended to use urea once after the flowers of Mo Lan fall, which can promote the growth of leaf buds of Mo Lan and keep the leaves green without yellowing. Dilute urea with water about 600 times and directly water the flower soil.

The main fertilizer used for daily fertilization is organic fertilizer with balanced nutrients. You can bury the fermented sheep dung balls shallowly in the shallow soil layer of the orchid planting material. You can also use fermented rice water mixed with water at a ratio of 1:3 to irrigate the planting material.

One month before the flowering season each year, pay attention to using fertilizers containing phosphorus and potassium to promote flowering.

It is recommended to use 1200 times potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution for foliar spraying three times in a row, with an interval of 1 week each time. If there is too much nitrogen fertilizer before the flowering period of Mo Lan, the newly grown buds will not be flower buds, but will become leaf buds.
