What's wrong with the tiger skin plant not growing new roots (what to do if the root system of the tiger skin plant is not well developed)

What to do if the root system of Tiger Pilan is not well developed

The root system of the snake plant is not well developed, so it is best to wait until spring or autumn when the temperature is between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius to change the soil:

(1) When removing the plant from the pot, it is best to use tap water to wash off the soil. Try not to use a spade to dig up the soil, or pull it out directly, and try to preserve the roots to avoid secondary damage to the roots.

(2) Trim the long roots short, about 0.5 cm below the whip node of the underground stem of the tiger skin plant, and cut them off with a utility knife. The wound should be smooth and without burrs. Creating a new wound can help more roots grow after healing.

(3) Dry the root wound in a cool and ventilated place until the wound is slightly curled and becomes translucent. When drying the wound, you can use a spray to moisturize the leaves.

(4) Mix the rooting agent containing "indoleacetic acid" with red soil to make a mud, and then dip it on the roots of the snake plant twice.

After completing the above steps of removing the pot and treating the roots of the snake plant, the next step is planting and post-planting management.

First, planting materials:

The planting material for Sansevieria should be loose and breathable, not compacted or waterlogged, and slightly acidic and lightly fertile.

It is generally recommended to use a mixture of multiple soils for planting, so as to maximize the advantages of the soil and avoid its weaknesses, and meet the growth environment needs of the roots of Sansevieria.

We can mix garden soil + humus soil + volcanic rock small particles in a ratio of one third each, and then add about one tenth of honeycomb coal powder.

Honeycomb coal should be soaked in clean water several times before use. Although the honeycomb coal powder is fine, it is breathable and does not accumulate water, which can better fit the roots of the tiger skin plant.

Second, maintain the environment:

Tiger Piranha likes light and has good shade tolerance. The place where it is maintained should be well ventilated and have sufficient light.

Keep the temperature in the optimal growth range of about 15 to 32 degrees Celsius, and keep the humidity of the environment at about 45%. A suitable growth environment is the basis for the healthy growth of Sansevieria.

(1) For newly potted snake plants, place them in a bright, well-ventilated location for about 10 days, then slowly increase the light for better photosynthesis.

(2) After 10 days, you can move the snake plant to a location that receives about 3 hours of sunlight every morning or evening. Under photosynthesis, the wound repair ability is accelerated, which is conducive to rooting.

(3) As long as the temperature is not higher than 32 degrees Celsius, the snake plant can be kept in a location with sufficient light.

If you want to keep it indoors, you should let the tiger skin plant grow outdoors for about half a year before you can bring it indoors. After bringing it indoors, you should also try to keep it in a well-ventilated and well-lit location.

Third, watering method:

Tiger Piranha has good drought tolerance, so the soil should be kept dry during maintenance. When watering, the soil should be alternately dry and wet, and there should be a certain interval between the dry and wet states, which is called "alternate dry and alternate wet".

Not only must there be water to replenish the needs for growth, but the flower soil must also have a corresponding dry period to facilitate the root breathing of the snake plant.

(1) There is no need to water the newly planted snake plant immediately. Just spray the planting material and leaves every day to wet them. Water thoroughly again after about 3 days.

(2) Watering in the later stage is mainly based on the observable dryness and wetness of the surface of the planting material. Generally, watering is extended for about a week after the shallow surface soil is dry. However, it should be used flexibly, and the watering time can be extended in spring and winter.

Fourth, fertilization method:

Fertilization is essential for the maintenance of Sansevieria, and the main focus of fertilization is on the three elements of "nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium". "Nitrogen" promotes leaf growth and bud formation. "Phosphorus and potassium" promote root growth, improve disease resistance, and environmental adaptability.

(1) In spring, fertilize first to promote budding, using fertilizers that are biased towards "nitrogen", 2 to 3 times. Then use "organic fertilizers" with comprehensive elements. Shallowly bury the fermented sheep dung balls on the surface of the flower soil to promote growth. Organic fertilizers can be used to supplement nutrients in other seasons, one month apart each time.

(2) In the spring and autumn when the growth of Sansevieria is vigorous, you can increase the supplement of organic fertilizer and water to promote growth. Dilute the fermented rice water by about 3 times, and add nutrients to the planting material by watering.

In spring and autumn, you can use a 1000 times solution of "potassium dihydrogen phosphate" and spray it on the leaves every month. It can promote root growth and flowering.
