How to prevent the occurrence of deformed strawberry fruits (causes and preventive measures for deformed strawberry fruits)

Deformed strawberry fruits are a rather annoying issue for berry farmers, as they are difficult to sell and no one even buys them, so they become defective products.

1. Symptoms of deformed fruit

Deformed strawberry fruit is characterized by deformed fruit, uneven surface, and irregular shape. Some look like "monkey heads", some like "chicken feet", and there are all kinds of shapes.

2. Causes of deformed fruit

Every strawberry-growing household has more or less deformed fruits, and there are many reasons for this, such as low temperature, high humidity, problems with medication, variety, low pollen quantity, uneven pollination, etc., which may all lead to the occurrence of deformed strawberry fruits. So, how to prevent and control deformed strawberry fruits?

3. Measures to prevent and control deformed strawberry fruits

We grow many varieties of strawberries here, such as Xingxiang, Hongyan, Sweet Charlie, Falandi, Fengxiang, Ruby and so on.

Through cultivation, we found that varieties such as Hongyan are more likely to produce deformed fruits when cultivated in warm greenhouses in winter, while Xingxiang rarely has this problem.

This is because Xingxiang has a large amount of pollen and is resistant to low temperatures, so the rate of deformed fruits is low.

Therefore, variety selection is important, and this is also the first measure to prevent and control deformed fruits.

The second measure is to pay attention to improving the cultivation and management conditions and eliminate factors that hinder the development of flower organs, such as humidity, temperature, etc.

We have found through years of cultivation that if the temperature in the greenhouse is controlled at 15-30 degrees and the humidity is below 60% during the flowering period, deformed fruits will generally not appear. However, when the temperature in the greenhouse exceeds 30 degrees during the day and falls below 5 degrees at night, the rate of deformed fruits increases.

The third is to pay attention to the use time and concentration of pesticides when preventing and controlling powdery mildew and other pests and diseases .

When using medicine during the flowering period of strawberries, it should be used 6 hours after flowering. At this time, the pollination and fertilization of the strawberry have been completed. Spraying the medicine will reduce the rate of deformed fruit and help prevent the strawberry from producing deformed fruit.

Fourth, pay attention to releasing bees during the flowering period to increase the pollination rate. Even pollination can reduce the number of deformed strawberries . Especially for greenhouse strawberries, the flowers that bloom during the low temperature period can be pollinated by releasing bees, which is very effective in preventing the production of deformed fruits.

The fifth is to pay attention to the balance of temperature and humidity in the greenhouse to prevent sudden changes in temperature and humidity, otherwise the number of deformed fruits will increase greatly.

In short, there are many reasons for the deformed strawberry fruits, such as low temperature, insufficient light, imbalance of water and fertilizer, lack of greenhouse and calcium will also aggravate the occurrence of deformed fruits.

Therefore, we have to figure out the reasons before we can take reasonable measures to solve them, such as selecting varieties, strengthening fertilizer and water management, improving lighting conditions, cleaning greenhouse films, and lighting stoves in the greenhouse to increase temperature.
