Basic knowledge on how to grow orchids for beginners (three keys for beginners to grow orchids well)

①First, choose the right orchid planting material

"When growing orchids, you must first take care of their roots. If the roots are strong, the orchid seedlings will flourish." Choosing planting materials suitable for the growth and development of orchids is the key factor in growing orchid roots. This is also one of the basic skills required for growing orchids.

The growth of orchids cannot be separated from a suitable environment. The microenvironment here mainly refers to the orchid pot planting material. In this microenvironment, the basic requirements for orchid growth must be "loose, breathable, fertile and drained".

So, how do we choose the right planting material?

The key points are the following two aspects: choosing planting materials based on the orchid's habit of disliking moisture and avoiding waterlogging. Each planting material has its own advantages and disadvantages, so we should develop their strengths and overcome their shortcomings.

In general, it should achieve the following 14 words: "slightly acidic, containing fertilizer, ventilated, water filtered, moisturizing, fertilizer retaining, and clean".

②Secondly, master the basic skills of watering orchids

Good water management is beneficial to the respiration of orchid roots, which can not only make orchids sprout more, but also promote the healthy growth of orchid seedlings. As the saying goes: "It takes a little knowledge to grow orchids, and three years of hard work to water them."

It can be seen that watering is the first basic skill to grow orchids.

There are two main ways for orchids to supply water: one is for the orchid roots to absorb moisture from the planting material and spread it upward to the entire orchid plant; the other is for the leaves to absorb moisture from the air.

The ancients said: orchids "like moisture but fear humidity, like dryness but fear dryness". Watering should be based on the growth of the orchid, the moisture retention of the orchid pot and planting material, as well as climatic conditions such as air humidity, temperature, and light.

③Again, provide appropriate orchid fertilizer

As the saying goes, "Life depends on water, and strength depends on fertilizer." The same is true for orchid cultivation, especially after the orchid leaf buds emerge from the ground and enter the peak period of nutritional growth. With more buds, the amount of nutrition needed naturally increases.

If the nutrient supply is insufficient, weak seedlings will inevitably grow. Therefore, applying topdressing to orchids at the right time and in the right amount is a very important basic skill for orchid cultivation. Orchids do not like heavy fertilizers, so "thin fertilizers and light fertilizers" are appropriate.

In short, in order to grow orchids well, in addition to the three basic skills mentioned above, you should also provide suitable temperature, light, humidity and ventilation conditions for orchid growth. Only in this way can orchids grow strong and well, and bloom with a delicate fragrance for viewing .
