Soil for growing lotusThe soil for potted lotus is best collected from rivers, lakes and ponds in winter, piled in layers in a sunny place to dry, and then crushed and sieved before planting lotus in the spring of next year; or you can use relatively sticky garden topsoil. Usually, shallow pots with a diameter of about 20 cm, bucket pots or shallow tanks with a diameter of more than 60 cm are used to plant lotus roots. If you use an old pot, you should clean the inside and outside of the pot and expose it to the sun for 2 to 3 days to remove germs and insect eggs. How to pot lotusUsually, three nodes are used as one lotus root, and the top bud, waist bud and tail bud are kept intact. When planting, first lay a layer of 1 to 2 cm thick fine river sand on the bottom of the pot, then fill with 10 cm of soil, and place 200 to 300 grams of animal hoof horns or pig hair as base fertilizer in the middle of the pot . If you use new pots and plain soil for planting, you should add more base fertilizer; if you use old pots and soil for planting, you should add less base fertilizer. Then fill the soil to cover the fertilizer to the middle of the pot, plant the lotus root close to the edge of the pot with the head low and the tail high. Cover the top with 7 cm of soil and the tail with 1 cm of soil. Leave an 8-10 cm water outlet on the top. Control of basin water depthAfter planting, place a small flower pot in the center of the pot to prevent the soil from being washed away when watering. When you start watering, wait until the water has penetrated before filling the pot with water. Within 1 to 2 days after cultivation, the potting water and debris floating on the surface need to be washed out. After 2 to 3 days, add clean water after the potting soil is completely settled, and keep the water level at about 2 cm. As the lotus leaf buds grow and the ambient temperature rises, gradually add water to the mouth of the pot. Fertilizer nutrient supplyDuring the growth period of the lotus, if you find that the leaves of the lotus are light in color and thin in texture, you can apply 0.1% urea and 0.05% potassium dihydrogen phosphate to the water. Alternatively, you can bury the decomposed cake fertilizer blocks in the soil around the potting mud, and apply fertilizer every 15 to 20 days. When the leaves are thick and slightly blue, it means that the fertilizer is suitable. If the leaves are uneven, it means that the amount of fertilizer is too much. Do not apply fertilizer again in August. |
