How to propagate the cuttings of thorny plum flowers When is the best time to propagate the cuttings of thorny plum flowers

It is best to propagate the barberry flowers by cuttings from April to June. The soil should be sprayed moist before propagation, because it is easy to damage the cuttings if the soil is too dry. After propagation, place it in a well-ventilated environment for maintenance.

Cutting time of barberry

The barberry flower is suitable for cuttings in spring and autumn . The temperature at this time is very suitable for its growth, the plant's physiological activities are relatively vigorous, and the cuttings are most likely to survive. In summer, once the temperature exceeds 35 degrees, it will dormant and not bloom, and in winter, once the temperature is below 15 degrees, it will also go dormant.

How to propagate Barbadensis by cuttings

1. Preparation before cutting

First, you need to prepare the cuttings. You can cut the branches with good growth from the healthy mature plants. Carefully cut off the leaves in the lower part, and pay attention to cutting the bottom of the cut barberry branches into an oblique shape, which is conducive to rooting. Then sterilize the branches with disinfectant, and then take them out and put them in a cool place to dry.

2. Prepare the soil

You should pay attention to choosing loose soil so that it is easy to grow roots. If it is soil with rotten leaves, add river sand and vermiculite to make sandy soil, which is more conducive to root growth.

3. Take cuttings

Put the flower soil in the seedling container, take the dried barberry branches and place them in the soil. The depth also needs to be controlled, about half of the cuttings should be inserted into the soil.

Precautions after cutting of barberry

After planting, it is recommended to place it in a warm and well-ventilated place, and then water it. Water it every two days. If the weather is bad and the water absorption is not good, you can water it once every three or four days and wait for rooting.

If you water too much, the roots will rot. You can observe the branches and leaves on the upper part of the branches. If they are not dry and have lasted for more than 20 days, it means that roots have grown.
