How to plant garlic? Steps and management of garlic bulbs

In people's lives, garlic is a common condiment. Now the area of garlic planting is getting larger and larger. The timing of planting can be determined according to one's needs, and the quality of planted garlic varies. So what are the methods and time for planting garlic?

Garlic planting time

Garlic can bloom in autumn or spring. If the garlic seedlings can safely survive the winter, you can choose to sow them in autumn and harvest them in early summer of the following year.

In areas with cold winters, seedlings cannot safely overwinter, so spring planting will be chosen. However, the planting temperature in autumn is different from that in spring, which has a greater impact on the nutritional accumulation of garlic.

Garlic planting method and steps

1. Garlic preparation

First, peel the garlic and select the better garlic cloves for sowing. First, we prepare the garlic cloves for sowing. In order to speed up the emergence of seedlings, we can cut off the harder part of the root of the garlic cloves, and then cut a notch at the top of the garlic cloves, which will help speed up the emergence of seedlings.

2. Land preparation

Then prepare the land. When planting garlic, it is best to choose sandy soil or loam. When turning the soil, you can apply some organic fertilizer and then turn the soil over.

3. Sowing garlic

When planting garlic, we need to choose a place for row sowing. We use a furrow opener to dig a furrow about 5 cm deep. The distance between the furrow lines is about 15 to 20 cm. How should garlic seedlings be planted?

Put the garlic bulb upright and insert it into the soil, with the tip facing upwards and the root inserted about one centimeter into the soil. Try to keep the garlic bulb straight so that the garlic bulb can grow. We need to plant garlic with a spacing of about 10cm between plants and insert the garlic bulb into the soil.

4. Covering and Suppression

After planting the garlic, we need to cover it with a lid. When covering the soil, try not to bury the garlic. Bury it about 2-3cm above the garlic. Do not bury the soil too shallowly, otherwise it will easily get frostbite in winter.

After burial, we need to press it down and compact it evenly with our feet. If the soil moisture is poor, water it thoroughly. After about a week, the garlic will sprout.

5. Harvest

You can start harvesting garlic stalks about 20 days after the garlic is harvested. If too much fertilizer and water are applied in the early stage, new leaves will sprout before the garlic is harvested, and the bulbs and garlic stalks will no longer grow, so they need to be harvested in time.

6. Notes

There are two things to pay attention to when planting garlic. First, pay attention to the timing and sow in time. Second, pay attention to the choice of garlic variety. It is best to buy new garlic for sowing.
