Maintenance methods and cultivation taboos of bonsai of Pteris chinensis

1. Sunlight

The pine sandalwood bonsai is more suitable to be placed in a sheltered and sunny place, but it does not like cold winds and needs shade in summer. When the temperature in winter is below 1°C, the temperature for maintaining the pine sandalwood bonsai should be controlled above 15 degrees.

2. Watering

The bonsai of Pteris chinensis is relatively drought-resistant and is known as the Pteris chinensis that cannot be killed by drought. However, it should not be too drought-resistant. It should be watered when the soil is dry and when the soil is wet. The dog days are the period when flower buds are formed and water is indispensable. It should be watered once in the morning and once in the evening. When the leaves fall in autumn, the soil in the pot can be a little drier and it only needs to be watered once every 5-7 days.

Things to note when planting cedarwood bonsai

When planting cedarwood bonsai, it is best to use yellow sand, pine needle soil and loess in a ratio of 4:3:3. This soil is both breathable and water-retaining, and will not accumulate water. And put a few more layers of tiles and coarse sand at the bottom of the pot. After adding the soil, shake it a few times, and then compact it down along the edge of the pot to prevent the formation of cavities under the roots, so as not to affect the growth of the roots of cedarwood.
