How to dry daylily

Preparation for drying

Before introducing the method of drying day lily, we must first mention the issue of picking day lily, because only day lily picked at the right time can ensure the high quality of the dried products produced. The daylily buds should be picked when they are fully developed and mature but before they open, which is usually between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. If it is a rainy day, the buds will open earlier and can be picked in advance. After picking, the flower buds should be soaked in boiling water for a few minutes until the color of the flower buds fades, then taken out and allowed to cool naturally. Finally, it can be dried.

Specific methods of drying

1. Dry in the sun.

The first step is to set up the rack for drying day lilies. The height of the rack should be about 30 cm to 60 cm. Then put a chair or drying tray on the rack. Then you can put the processed day lily buds on it. Be sure to spread them out and place them evenly. The thickness should be about two or three meters, and they should be turned over every two or three hours. At night, be sure to put away the day lilies and cover them with cloth to prevent the dried day lilies from getting damp again. Generally, the day lilies need to be dried in the sun until they are firm when pinched, stretch naturally when released, and the flower buds do not stick together. If the weather is cloudy for consecutive days, you can use 5/1000 sulfur to fumigate the day lily to prevent it from getting moldy and rotting.

2. Drying.

Generally, about five kilograms of processed day lily can be placed on each square baking tray. In the early stage of drying, the day lily still contains a lot of moisture. You can adjust the temperature of the drying room to between 80 degrees Celsius and 85 degrees Celsius before putting the day lily in. After that, you can lower the temperature to 60 degrees Celsius to 65 degrees Celsius and bake it for 12 to 15 hours. Then you can slowly lower it to 50 degrees Celsius and stop when the daylily is completely dry. In order to prevent the day lily from being burnt, the baking tray should be replaced in time and it should be turned over regularly to ensure that the degree of dryness of the dried day lily is the same.
