Hawthorn seed germination method

1. Warm water germination

Choose ripe, plump, and insect-free hawthorn fruits, carefully remove the core, which is the seed of the hawthorn. Soak it in warm water for a week, changing the water every day to ensure the water quality. After a week, you can take out the seeds and expose them to the sun, and soak them in water at night.

The next day, take them out and expose them to the sun again. Repeat this process until the shells of the hawthorn seeds crack. Then wrap them in moist sand and wait until the next spring to take out the germinated seeds and sow them .

2. Soil culture germination

After selecting the hawthorn seeds, scald them with hot water and soak them in warm water for 3-5 days. When the water temperature is lower than 37℃, change the water. After 5 days, take out the seeds and mix them with horse manure in a ratio of 1:4. After mixing evenly, put them in a 40 cm deep pit and cover them with a quilt or thatch. The seeds will crack in about 1-2 months .

Hawthorn seed germination process

Hawthorn seeds are not easy to germinate, and the germination rate is low. Generally, after being soaked, exposed to the sun and stored in sand, some of the seed shells will crack and white buds will emerge in the spring of the second year. Hawthorn seeds mixed with horse manure will partially germinate in about two months.

Hawthorn Seed Planting and Harvesting

Hawthorn seeds are basically sown in April and grafted after germination. It will bloom and bear fruit in 2-4 years. As the tree ages, the yield of hawthorn fruit increases year by year, and it enters the peak fruit-bearing period around 10 years after planting.
