How to grow Photinia chinensis bonsai

Watering

The photinia bonsai is suitable for growing in a humid environment. The soil in the pot should be kept moist during the growing period, but water should not accumulate, as this will easily cause root rot. In the hot summer weather, you should water more often and spray some water on the leaves and the tree to lower the temperature and increase moisture. In the winter, you should reduce watering.

illumination

The photinia bonsai likes light but is not cold-resistant, so it needs to be kept in a well-ventilated and humid environment. Provide appropriate shade in summer and avoid exposure to the sun.

temperature

The photinia bonsai is afraid of severe cold. In the northern region of my country, it should be placed indoors for maintenance after late autumn to ensure that the indoor temperature is above 8°C. In the southern part of my country, it can be placed in a sheltered, sunny place to overwinter.

Fertilization

During the growing period of the photinia bonsai, apply thin cake fertilizer liquid and manure fertilizer liquid once every half a month. No fertilizer management is required in summer and winter.

Repotting

The photinia bonsai needs to be repotted every 2-3 years, when the buds sprout in February or March. You need to replace some of the old soil and add some base fertilizer when repotting, and you can also perform corresponding root lifting treatments.

Pest and disease prevention

The photinia bonsai is easily harmed by leaf rollers, longhorn beetles, scale insects, aphids, etc. It can be prevented by spraying with phosphine emulsion and oxydemeton-methyl emulsifiable concentrate. The most direct way is to remove it manually and apply lime sulfur mixture for prevention and control.
