What is the best season for planting grapes?

Grapes are popular because of their delicious taste, so a large number of farmers have begun to plant grapes. However, before planting, we must choose the right planting time and manage and cultivate them so that we can achieve high yields.

Grape planting time

Generally speaking, grape seedlings are planted in autumn , when the temperature changes less, which can effectively increase the survival rate of grape seedlings. At the same time, the humidity of the air and soil is higher than in spring, which can promote the growth of new roots. Therefore, the yield of autumn planting will also be greater.

Grape growing season

In May, the stems and leaves of grapes will begin to grow, and the tendrils will also grow slowly. From mid-May, the grapes will enter the flowering period. Until the end of May and the beginning of June, this stage is the fastest growing period of grapes, that is, the early summer season, when a large number of stems, leaves, new shoots, and tendrils will grow significantly.

Grape cultivation tips

1. Choose the right location

When planting grapes, you must choose a suitable location. It is best to plant them in a sunny place with at least 8 hours of direct sunlight a day. If the environment is dark, the grapes will definitely not grow well. Even if they can survive, they will grow very weak.

2. Soil selection

Grapes are adaptable to a wide range of soils. As long as the soil is kept neutral, it will be very friendly to its growth. The soil for planting should also maintain good drainage. Do not use soil that is too sticky, as this will prevent water accumulation.

3. Choose the variety

When planting grapes, you should choose suitable varieties according to the planting environment. It is best to choose varieties with strong resistance to diseases and pests. In the south, you can plant varieties such as Rain Water Red and American Round Leaf Grapes. In the north, you can choose Kyoho, Yellow Grape, Rose Fragrance, Golden Finger and Red Globe.

4. Set up the support

When the grapes grow to a certain period, they need to be equipped with appropriate supports. This can be determined based on the growth conditions and environment of the plants. It is best to build a grid-shaped support, which allows the grapes to climb better and get in touch with more sunlight.
