Sunflower Planting Time and Method (Ornamental Sunflowers)

Sunflower Planting Time and Method (Ornamental Sunflowers)

1. Sunflower planting time

Potted sunflowers are usually sown between April and June. The higher the temperature within an appropriate range, the more conducive it is to seed germination. It usually germinates ten to fifteen days after planting, grows very quickly, and usually blooms in summer.

2. Sunflower planting method

Seed selection: For ornamental sunflowers, choose small sunflower seeds, and pay attention to selecting mature and fuller seeds.

Sowing: Sowing should be done when the temperature is around 20 degrees Celsius. Before sowing, the seeds need to be germinated. Wrap the seeds with moist gauze and place them in a sunny place in the room. After two or three days, the seeds will sprout. When sowing, insert the seeds with the pointed end facing down into the soil, being careful not to insert them too deep. After planting, cover it with a thin layer of soil, spray water with a watering can to keep the soil moist, and then place it in a sunny place indoors for maintenance. If you keep it outdoors, you must water it in time and do not let the soil dry out.

Transplanting: Wait until the sunflower seed buds grow five true leaves before you can start transplanting. Prepare a larger flowerpot in advance, and choose slightly acidic to neutral sandy soil with good drainage and air permeability. And add some compost to increase the nutrients in the soil. After the potting soil is prepared, you can plant the sunflower seedlings in the pot. After planting, place it in a ventilated place without sunlight, and then place it in a sunny place after it has grown firmly. If it is well maintained, it will bloom in about fifty to sixty days.

During the subsequent maintenance process, it is necessary to water and fertilize it in time to replenish it with water and nutrients, so that it will grow faster and better, and its flowers will look better.
