Cultivation and watering of Guanyin bamboo

Cultivation and watering of Guanyin bamboo

Guanyin bamboo is a typical evergreen shrub that prefers warm and humid climatic conditions and has a weak tolerance to cold, which requires more attention and careful care when cultivating it in winter. Below we will learn together the cultivation and watering methods of Guanyin Bamboo.

1. Soil conditions

Guanyin bamboo has strict requirements on soil. It prefers slightly acidic to neutral soil, and the ideal soil pH value is between 4.5 and 7.0. Alkaline or heavy clay soils should be avoided as they may affect plant growth.

2. Moisture management

Although Guanyin bamboo likes moisture, it is extremely sensitive to stagnant water. Daily watering should be appropriate. The first time watering, make sure the soil is fully moist. After that, the amount of water should be controlled to prevent water accumulation, so as not to cause damage to the plant.

3. Lighting conditions

Guanyin bamboo likes light, but can also adapt to semi-shady environment. It is best to maintain it in semi-shade and semi-sunlight conditions. In summer, shade should be provided at noon, while in winter, more sunlight should be provided to supplement light.

4. Watering frequency

Guanyin bamboo needs to maintain a moist growing environment. Water the plants abundantly after initial planting, and then adjust the watering frequency according to the season: every 1 to 2 days in summer, every 4 to 5 days in spring and autumn, and once a week in winter. The specific frequency needs to be adjusted according to local climatic conditions.

5. Fertilization recommendations

During the growing season of Guanyin bamboo, apply decomposed thin liquid fertilizer, such as bean cake fertilizer, or use compound fertilizer once every half a month. In winter, the plants enter a dormant period and fertilization should be stopped.

In addition, when growing Guanyin bamboo in soil, repotting should not be done frequently. It is sufficient to repot the plant every two years. As the plant grows older, the frequency of repotting can be gradually reduced until it no longer needs to be repotted.
