Can Strelitzia reginae be repotted in summer?

It is best not to repot Strelitzia in the summer. The temperature is relatively high at this time, and Strelitzia can easily enter a dormant state. If you repot it, it will lose water too quickly, making it difficult for the plant to adapt to the pot, which will affect its survival rate. It is best to repot it in spring in April or May.

How to repot Strelitzia

1. Remove the plant from the pot

Before removing the Strelitzia from the pot, you can stop watering it to loosen the soil. Then, knock on the sides of the pot with your hands, hold the plant in one hand, and gently take it out of the pot. After taking the plant out, remove the old soil at the roots and wash it with water. At the same time, cut off the dry and diseased roots.

2. Pot soil preparation

Strelitzia reginae likes loose, fertile, well-drained loam. If you prepare it yourself, you can mix it with leaf mold, sandy soil, and peat soil. You can also add an appropriate amount of decomposed cake fertilizer to the soil. You can choose ceramic pots or clay pots for the flower pots, and make sure there are drainage holes at the bottom.

3. Planting method

It is easy to plant Strelitzia reginae. First, add some broken tiles or granular stones at the bottom of the flowerpot, fill some soil on it, and put the plant into the flowerpot. Fill the soil around the plant, compact it, water it thoroughly, and then put the flowerpot in a ventilated and cool place for maintenance for a while.

Things to note when repotting Strelitzia

1. When repotting Strelitzia, be careful not to damage its roots, otherwise it will affect its growth. When planting Strelitzia, do not plant it too deep. Just bury the roots of Strelitzia in the soil.

2. After repotting the Strelitzia, do not place it directly in a place with light. Wait until it is kept in a cool place for a period of time, and then gradually give it some light, because the roots of the Strelitzia that has just been repotted need to adapt to the new potting soil.
