The pearl bird is a popular small ornamental bird. They are small and cute, with clear voices, and their very high reproduction rate, so many bird lovers like to raise chickens at home. So what are the methods and precautions for raising pearl birds? Let’s learn more about it below. 1. Cage preparation Generally, a household breeding box cage is about 30 cm long, 25 cm wide and 35 cm high, and can house one to several pairs. An artificial nest box should be set up in a corner above the cage. The artificial nest box should be about 9 cm long, 7 cm wide and 10 cm high. The bottom of the box should be covered with about 2 cm thick cotton or nesting grass. The entrance and exit should be about 3 cm in diameter, and there should be a small platform outside the entrance and exit. 2. Temperature management Pearl birds like water baths, and the water temperature is around 30 degrees Celsius. Except for the brooding period, an appropriate amount of water should be supplied to the pearl birds for water baths. The most suitable temperature is 25 to 20 degrees Celsius. It should not be lower than 5 degrees Celsius in winter. It should be kept warm at night to facilitate the growth and development of the pearl birds. 3. Feed and drink water Pearl birds are grain-eating birds. In daily feeding, they are fed a mixture of millet and barnyard grass in a ratio of six to four. They can be fed egg rice when the chicks hatch and to promote estrus. For drinking water, you can choose boiled water or tap water that has been left for a day and place the water in an automatic drinking fountain. You can also add some appropriate additives to the water. 4. Cleanliness and hygiene Clean the cage regularly to keep the environment clean and sanitary. Clean the cage at least once a week, including changing the bedding and cleaning the food and water containers. 5. Breeding and hatching Pearl birds can breed all year round in suitable environments. The incubation period is about 14 days, with the male and female birds incubating alternately. During the breeding period, the environment should be kept quiet to avoid disturbing the parents and chicks. 6. Notes (1) Pearl birds are social animals and need to maintain social connections with other birds. If conditions permit, you can consider raising multiple pearl birds so that they can keep each other company. (2) Regularly interacting with pearl birds, such as caressing and talking, can help cultivate their sense of trust and closeness. (3) Pearl birds are very timid, so it is important to provide them with a quiet and comfortable environment to prevent them from being frightened. (4) Pearl birds cannot be released into the wild because they have poor survival abilities in the wild and are very sensitive to temperature changes. In general, the pearl bird itself is gentle, lively and cute, and has always been one of the popular pets. Moreover, it has strong adaptability and vitality, and is relatively easy to raise artificially.
