How to prepare osmanthus soil and nutrient soil for planting

Requirements for preparing osmanthus soil

Osmanthus likes to grow in loose, breathable, well-drained and fertile sandy loam rich in humus. When preparing osmanthus soil, pay attention to controlling the soil pH between 5.5-6.5.

The more common method of preparing soil for potted osmanthus at home is to mix it with leaf mold, garden soil, and river sand. When we grow osmanthus ourselves, we can also use kitchen waste, leaves, weeds, etc. as the main raw materials, add livestock manure, water and soil to make compost.

How to prepare osmanthus soil

1. When planting osmanthus, you can mix 5 parts of humus, 3 parts of garden soil and 2 parts of river sand by volume. The soil prepared in this way contains humus, which can basically meet the normal growth needs of osmanthus. You can also mix garden soil: stable manure: river sand in a ratio of 1:1:1, and then add decomposed organic fertilizer bone meal as base fertilizer when planting.

2. The self-prepared osmanthus soil may contain certain bacteria, and direct use will cause damage to the plants, so it must be disinfected first. It can be exposed to strong light for disinfection, or it can be disinfected by high temperature method before planting osmanthus.

Precautions for preparing osmanthus soil

Osmanthus is suitable for growing in slightly acidic soil. Alkaline soil will cause the leaves of osmanthus to turn yellow, the flower buds to fail to grow, and in severe cases, the whole plant may die. When preparing osmanthus soil, pay attention to maintaining moisture in the soil.
